Kristyl Dawn Tift’s original debut EP tells the story of a lover whose devotion to that pursuit breaks and rebuilds her world. Tift’s unusual range and tone—a deep, metallic contralto to smooth, lyric soprano—along with the lush, minimal production, storied lyrics, and layered vocal arrangements make for a soulful debut that is the beginning of something.

“I wanted to prove to myself that I could tell a story through music all by myself. It’s harder than it seems and, because of how hard I worked, I’m immensely proud of this project. It’s like a time capsule of my 20s. As Still Light progresses, you hear me becoming more confident—as a singer, writer, vocal arranger, and producer…as a woman. It’s really a project about how we give away and take power back—the power dynamics of love relationships. The Kristyl on this project has more power than she knows and, by the end, she is ready to use it to heal herself.”
